Prevention and care

Currently, there is no cure for Alzheimer disease. However, there are ways of reducing or delaying its development, for example:

  • Intellectual and social activities such as reading, chess and crosswords;
  • Physical activity;
  • Regular health monitoring (cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes);
  • A healthy diet.
In Canada, medications are available to help alleviate the symptoms and slow the advance of the disease.

Early diagnosis is important in the use of these medications. However, they are only a temporary solution and they do not work for everyone.
