Definition

Schizophrenia is defined as a loss of contact with reality.

Schizophrenia is an illness of the brain that manifests itself in the disturbance of certain mental functions. It is not an illness of the soul, a lack of will, or a double personality; rather, it is a ‘fault’ in certain neural circuits in the brain that results in a disability, a handicap and, unfortunately, in stigmatization due to public misunderstanding.
