Golf 2011

Going full swing for the benefit of the Partners for Life program!

The Mental Illness Foundation’s 21st Annual Golf Tournament went off without a hitch on June 13 at the Elm Ridge Country Club in Île Bizard. The tournament was chaired by honorary co-presidents François Côté, President of Telus Quebec and Telus Health Solutions, and Joseph Iannicelli, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Standard Life Assurance Company.

Over 240 members of the business community participated in the Foundation’s traditional Annual Golf Tournament and helped raise over $250,000 of net revenues for the Partners for Life program.

Since its first edition in 1991, the tournament’s organizing committee has been chaired by Donald Bastien, Senior Vice-President and General Manager of CTV-Montreal. He is supported by five members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, and by committed volunteers and close collaborators.

“This year has been incredible, with 240 golfers involved, setting a new participation record. This wonderful success is thanks to the loyalty of our partners and participants, as well as thanks to the excellent work of our honorary co-presidents and our committees,” stated Donald Bastien, architect of this event and its most fervent supporter since 1991.

Generously supported by Telus and Standard Life, the tournament has been held for many years at one of the oldest clubs in North America, the Elm Ridge Country Club in Île Bizard. The two breathtaking 18-hole championship courses welcome golfers who are mostly the presidents and executives of the province’s and Canada’s major corporations.

The funds raised by the tournament increase year over year, and go towards providing financial support for the Partners for Life program. “We are both touched and pleased that so many business professionals have taken the time to support our youth awareness program. Thanks to these funds, our animators will be able to reach even more young people, their parents and their stakeholders in schools, throughout the next year,” explained Martin Tremblay, Chairman of The Mental Illness Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Since 1998, the Partners for Life team of animators has visited over 630 schools across Quebec and met with about 700,000 students, 8,000 parents and 22,000 stakeholders in order to raise awareness about depression, suicide prevention and juvenile delinquency.

The Mental Illness Foundation wishes to sincerely thank all of its donors and partners who have contributed to the success of this event and to underline the vital support of its sponsors.

Influential business professionals and the architects of the 21st edition of the Mental Illness Foundation’s Annual Golf Tournament came together to raise over $250,000 in net revenues for the Partners for Lifeprogram.
